Transition

Our Transition program for girls recognises the importance of the formative years in children’s development. We strive to create a balance between:

  • guided investigations initiated by each child’s interests and questions about the world
  • teacher planned activities
  • creative play

Children are encouraged to express their understandings through a variety of artistic means including:

  • construction
  • drawing
  • painting
  • dramatisation
  • poetry
  • puppetry
  • music

Preparing for the next step

A focus for Transition is teaching each child the necessary skills to enable independence at school. Children are provided with experiences and support which help them to develop a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills and a desire to learn. Stimulating books as well as scientific, creative and mathematical equipment are abundant.

The Transition class draws upon the expertise of specialist teaching staff from the Junior School and shares its excellent facilities. Each week, the girls participate in specialist music, French, physical education and Christian studies lessons. The children also visit the library on a weekly basis.

The Transition class is a five day program, commencing at 8.30 am each day and concluding at 2.30 pm. The class is run during term time and follows the academic year of the Junior School.

Will my daughter automatically proceed to Abbotsleigh Junior School?

Girls in the Transition class have priority to join our Kindergarten classes.
