Gifts in wills

Marian Clarke Society

Abbotsleigh’s founder and first Headmistress, Marian Clarke, fostered a vision in 1885 which still holds true today:  empowering young women with education to change the world in which they live.

The Marian Clarke Society is an initiative of the Abbotsleigh Foundation and is managed by a bequests committee that acknowledges and celebrates the generosity of those who have notified us that they are leaving a gift in their will to Abbotsleigh.

You can choose to notify Abbotsleigh of the details of the gift or keep your decision as a private matter. Your wishes and confidentiality will always be respected.

The President of the Marian Clarke Society is Penelope Thompson (past parent).

Gifts in wills

Leaving a gift in your will to Abbotsleigh is a very personal decision but is one that will make an enduring impact on the next generation. The generosity of Old Girls, parents and other members of our school community has enriched our educational facilities and made scholarships available to students who may not otherwise have benefited from an Abbotsleigh education.

The Abbotsleigh Foundation invests testimonial gifts prudently and ensures the utmost level of care, sensitivity and respect for your wishes.

How do I make a gift in my will?

Once you have discussed your intentions with your loved ones and made the generous decision to include Abbotsleigh in your will, it’s important to consult an independent solicitor or qualified legal advisor to help you create your will or make any changes (codicil).

Suggested wording:

I GIVE to Abbotsleigh (ABN 18 199 714 462):

  • The rest and residue of my Estate or
  • ________ percent of my Estate or
  • ________ percent of the residue of my Estate or
  • The sum of $ ______________

free of all duties and testamentary expenses for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the School shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors for this bequest.

For further information or to inform us of your gift in will, please contact our Fundraising Manger.  There is no legal requirement to inform the school: however, we appreciate receiving this information so that we have the opportunity express our gratitude and extend a warm welcome into the Marian Clarke Society.

Abbotsleigh camellias

The Abbotsleigh camellia was propagated to celebrate Abbotsleigh's centenary in 1985. Cultivated from the camellia japonica, the Abbotsleigh camellia has a large, white flower with a double layer of petals. All proceeds from sales of the camellia go to the Abbotsleigh Foundation.
