From the students: “Through Unfolding Seasons, we want to reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world and invite viewers to reflect on the ways seasonal change shapes our lives. As winter settles around us, it can be easy to forget the vibrancy of spring, the warmth of summer and the richness of autumn, which is why as you move through the gallery, you will journey through four seasonal spaces that each showcase a diverse range of works by Australian artists.
Artists featured in this exhibition each have unique and distinctive styles, use of colour, pattern and texture which express connection to country, culture and the environment which together reveal that each season can be understood in many ways.
In curating our exhibition, we were mindful that the understanding of seasons differs across cultures and whilst our exhibition is organized around four seasons, we would like to acknowledge that many indigenous communities recognise different seasonal calendars. Here on Dharug country for example, six seasons are traditionally observed and we acknowledge and respect these enduring seasons which continue to deepen our understanding of the land and its cycles.”
