LOCAL ARTISTS from Hornsby
Experience the work of Hornsby artists, each presenting a solo exhibition within the gallery.
1 to 17 May 2025
The three Hornsby artists for 2025 are
David Collins, Matt Elliott and Hua Ye
David Collins is a landscape painter who has lived on the Hawkesbury River, NSW, since 1987. His work is influenced by bushwalking, rowing on the river, and painting from its shores. He presents a group of paintings inspired by landscapes from the east coast of NSW, the Hawkesbury River, the Great Dividing Range, Cowra, Broken Hill, and Alice Springs. Each place has its distinct qualities, and like a river system, his impressions, memories, lines, and colours flow through one painting into another.
Collins is represented by Defiance Gallery in Sydney
Matt Elliott is an abstract landscape artist who has a fascination with dream states, creating lucid ‘mindscapes’ with a range of media that draw inspiration from the natural environment. His works include collaborative pieces with David Collins, created at Crosslands in the Hornsby Shire.
Elliott has been an active member of Studio ARTES Northside for 25 years.
Hua Ye’s exhibition features paintings that integrate oriental culture into his art while absorbing local influences of the unique Australian environment. His masterful use of colour, varied brushwork and aesthetic form are evident in his oil and watercolour paintings.
Opening event with Councillor Janelle McIntosh Deputy Mayor of Hornsby on Thursday 1 May from 6 to 7.30 pm
