LOCAL ARTISTS from Ku-ring-gai

A unique opportunity to explore the creative practice of artists from Ku-ring-gai,
each transforming a space within the gallery into a solo exhibition.

22 May to 11 June 2025

Opening event with Mayor Christine Kay on Thursday 22 May from 6 to 7.30 pm

The four Ku-ring-gai artists for 2025 are Shahroud Ghahani, Dee Jackson, Anne Levitch and Sandi Rigby

Shahroud Ghahani blends rich images from diverse cultures and experiences in her work. Her practice explores representations of the female body, beauty, the grotesque, and identity within Eastern and Western traditions. Her recent work employs collage to convey complex meanings, juxtaposing disparate elements with a playful approach. As a feminist artist, feminist themes are a core focus in her practice. Ghahani’s oeuvre includes drawing, painting, monotype print, assemblage, sculpture, photography, and film.

Dee Jackson is a portrait painter and skilled watercolour teacher who is attracted to the freedom and fluid spontaneity of watercolour. She believes watercolour lends itself to the softness and curves of the human form, allowing her to create seamless edges that drift in and out of focus.

Anne Levitch is a conceptual artist drawn to the philosophical, psychological, and metaphysical influences of cultural heritage embedded in social attitudes. Her drawings, photographs, painting, and 3D works examine the relationship between appearance and essence, reflecting on the tension between the superficiality of surface rather than substance. Levitch explores the concept of mirroring as metaphor for self-reflection.

Sandi Rigby creates her work both realistically and with stylised abstraction, and painting, drawing, etching, and the artists book are the focus of her practice. She responds to the natural world of landscapes, animals, birds and plants and is inspired by local bush walks, travel, and overseas art residencies.
