At Abbotsleigh we respect, explore and experience the beauty and wonder of the Christian faith. We challenge girls to discover and respond to the hope of Christ’s message with curiosity, open minds and intellectual rigour. We encourage generosity, respect and understanding of diverse beliefs and cultures. Abbotsleigh’s values are embedded in the Biblical concepts of compassion, courage, integrity, respect and perseverance, all of which are displayed in the teachings and person of Jesus. We foster Christian growth, leadership and service.
Chaplaincy
The Chaplaincy team is here to support the spiritual formation of every student, regardless of her background, as each uncovers the story of the Bible and is introduced to, or grows in her knowledge of, the person of Jesus.
We offer pastoral support and guidance, making sure that students leave Abbotsleigh with a well-rounded understanding of themselves and their world, as well as the deep love of God as shown through Christ.
Chapel
Girls attend weekly chapels where we sing, pray and learn from the Bible. This is an engaging time where students have the opportunity to stop, think big and reflect on Jesus. Boarders also attend Boarders’ Chapel once a week to think about these things further.
Christian Studies Classes
Christian Studies is a class where, once a week, students have a safe place to explore and be curious. Throughout the years at Abbotsleigh, girls learn about the Bible, about who Jesus is and what he has done, as well as examples of Christians who, over time, have shown what it means to live for Jesus. Girls will have opportunities to engage in Service Learning, and learn how to make good, ethical decisions. We work to make these classes engaging and applicable to each and every student, no matter their faith or spiritual background.
CRU
CRU is our Christian lunchtime group where students gather to read the Bible and pray together. In Junior School, girls meet at lunchtime on Wednesdays to learn more about God. Students in Years 7-10 meet on Thursdays in groups run by student leaders, and students in Years 11 and 12 meet on Monday lunchtimes. Anyone is welcome to attend if they would like to know more about Jesus. We also have a yearly CRU camp with SHORE which is open for all Senior School students to attend.
