Year 9 Commerce Market Day
On Tuesday 28 August, the Global Learning Centre was transformed into a busy marketplace for Commerce Market Day. As part of their 'Promoting and Selling' topic, Year 9 Commerce students were given the challenge to answer the question 'What do Year 7 students want?'
Through market research, teams identified a target market and a designed a product. Groups took to this challenge with creativity, coming up with products ranging from a digital school diary, to sleep pods, luxury cruises and an Abbotsleigh café.
In the lead up to Market Day, teams developed and implemented a marketing plan to raise awareness of their products. This saw branded bookmarks in the library, flash mobs, digital and paper marketing around the School and groups sponsoring Year 7 teachers (or younger sisters!) to promote their ideas.
This all culminated a very realistic market, where enthusiastic stallholders noisily spruiked their wares, and the busy crowd of Year 7 students jostled in the cacophony to visit the stalls and invest tokens in their favourite ideas. It was wonderful to see the students putting the theory they have learnt throughout the topic into action.
