Year 5 Nursing Home Visits

Year 5 have eagerly been anticipating meeting the residents from local nursing homes. The girls have been enthusiastically rehearsing some beautiful songs to sing and instruments to play for the residents. We read ‘Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge’ by Mem Fox to help unpack some of the difficulties the residents may be facing in terms of communication and mobility. Over the last two weeks all four classes had the opportunity to visit the nursing homes.

The girls took the opportunity to perform music and singing items for the residents before spending time talking to their ‘adopted grandparents’. Some girls brought in card games, books and prepared topics of conversations. Upon reflection of the visit the girls were amazed that many of the residents had similar experiences to them and were enthralled by their years of wisdom and ability to tell stories. Year 5 are very much looking forward to our next visit in Term 2.
