Why the Foundation needs support

Over the Abbotsleigh Foundation’s 40 year history, gifts from Abbotsleigh families and Old Girls have enabled the Foundation to support scholarships, to support the development and maintenance of buildings and libraries and to invest in the School’s programs, including for example the Literary Festival.

“School fees alone do not provide the capital needed to continue to shape the future of Abbotsleigh or provide means tested scholarships for girls. Recognising this, generations of parents and Old Girls have made gifts that continue to benefit our students today, and we are extremely grateful to these individuals”, says Director of Development, Ms Yvette Vignando, “and the fact is that gifts from previous generations and from the current parent and Old Girl community contribute significantly to what makes Abbotsleigh so special.”

The Abbotsleigh Foundation assists the School financially, but can only make a meaningful contribution to Abbotsleigh if the entire school community continues to join in supporting means-tested scholarships, development of new facilities and support of libraries. “Each gift, no matter the size, makes a difference when everyone in the school community gives an annually. Because the size of our community is limited to our families, Old Girls and staff, having everyone make a gift really counts.” says Ms Vignando.

In 2016 the Foundation will focus on ensuring the ongoing sustainability of the Indigenous Scholarships program at Abbotsleigh. Our aim is to raise $4.2 million over the next five years, to be able to perpetually fund up to twelve Indigenous scholars at the School at any one time. “We encourage our Old Girls, families and staff to consider leveraging collective impact by making annual gifts that will help us move closer to the goal”, adds Ms Vignando.

The Abbotsleigh Foundation has offered means-tested scholarships for 40 years and is proud of supporting opportunities for girls who would not otherwise be able to attend Abbotsleigh. With philanthropic support and investment, our aim is to support more means-tested scholarships.

As a registered charity, tax deductible receipts can be provided for gifts to most of the Abbotsleigh Foundation’s funds. You can make your gift online today (link to Westpac payment page for Foundation) and I also welcome you to contact Danielle Cotter to discuss your gift.
