The prize that ties

Drama CROPPED

Abbotsleigh students enjoy their drama studies.

Celebrating the achievements of our students on Speech Day is a highly valued event on the Abbotsleigh school calendar. Thanks to the generous Prize Endowment scheme, students across all fields can strive to excel in the particular area of study about which they are most passionate.

Each year, across both senior and junior school, the school has a number of prizes available for endowment. It is with much gratitude that we accept endowments and we thankfully acknowledge those that have endowed in the past for their vision to see future Abbotsleigh girls strive for their best. In giving, many of our past endowment sponsors say they feel a great sense of personal satisfaction in assisting the students to push themselves and also in creating long-lasting ties with the school.

In 2015, the Year 12 Drama Prize was endowed by Malcolm and Penelope Thompson who had schooled their three girls at Abbotsleigh. All of the Thompson girls shared a passion for drama – something which Malcolm and Penelope heartfully encouraged.

“It was undoubtedly within the Drama Studio and various performance spaces in and out of the School that engaged our emotions most. We wanted to acknowledge not just our girls’ common interest and individual successes, but highlight the benefits that studying drama cultivates – memory recall, public speaking practice, confidence, team work and managing disappointment; all great tools for life. It is only those involved in HSC Drama – students (and their families) and staff – who truly appreciate the time, effort and personal sacrifice required to achieve success. It is for this reason, we felt honoured to endow the Year 12 Drama Prize,” said the Thompsons.

In 2016, there are a number of prizes available for endowment across several areas including the arts, science, mathematics and sports.

A gift of $1,000 to the Abbotsleigh Foundation endows a prize for five years. A gift of $5,000 to the Foundation will endow a prize in perpetuity with the option to name the prize. All prize endowers are offered VIP seating at Speech Day and each endowment is acknowledged in the prize citation in the Speech Day program.
