No place like home

President, Abbotsleigh Parents' Association

Whilst my face is new on the Abbotsleigh Parent Association (APA) Committee, I am not new to Abbotsleigh.  In fact, my connection goes back to 1975.  I’m not an Old Girl, I am an old neighbour.  I grew up in the Uniform Shop!

That building was my family home from 1975 until 1991.  My parents restored what was an abandoned, vandalised old building into our home.

When the Aquatic Centre was only a plan, my parents agreed to sell the house and surrounding land to the school.  So, the task of buying uniforms for my now Year 6 daughter, Ella Booker, brings me nostalgic happy memories.

Kathy's former childhood home is now the  Abbotsleigh Uniform Shop.

Since my daughter started at Abbotsleigh in Year 1, I have built up many, many more connections with the School, with people rather than a building.  Teachers, parents and my daughter's friends and their families have all contributed to my own positive experience of the school.  This year, I am looking forward to working with an enthusiastic and generous group of parents who form the APA Committee.  Our role is to “promote friendship and goodwill within the Abbotsleigh community,  conduct activities to benefit the School and its students and to provide opportunities for parents and staff to meet," as outlined in the APA Parent Handbook.

We are privileged to have Megan Krimmer, our new Headmistress, sitting on our Committee each time we meet.  We work closely with the Development Office to ensure there are lots of opportunities for parents to meet, develop friendships and feel involved.  We also support the School’s fundraising events, which contribute to making Abbotsleigh an amazing learning environment for our girls.

Each and every parent is automatically a member of the APA.  If you have any ideas, questions or suggestions, please contact the Parent Representative from your daughter’s year.  Year representatives are listed on Page 4 of the Parent Handbook. We encourage and welcome parent involvement in whatever time slots you can offer.   Here’s to a great year.

Hope to see you all at Twilight on the Plaza on Friday, 24 February.
