IGSSA Athletics Carnival
Sarah Healey, Athletics Captain and Marnie Clarkson, Vice Captain.
This year the IGSSA athletics carnival coincided with the centenary of the Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools (AHIGS). With the Year 7 cheering loudly in the stands, the Abbotsleigh athletics team took to the track ready to compete.
A large proportion of the girls in the team made the final for their events and many girls placed in the top three, meaning several will be able to advance onto CIS. It was great to see all the black and gold uniforms on both the track and the field as well as a sea of white bucket hats and the Abbotsleigh bumblebee in the stands.
Abbotsleigh brought home the senior division trophy and placed 2nd in the overall schools’ point score, which is a tremendous accomplishment.
Thank you to all the coaches for their help both throughout the term as well as at the competition. Also, thank you to the Athletics Coordinators Mr Everingham and Mr Bultitude for their organisation of the team and to Mrs Poole and the parents for their support on the day. Finally, thank you to all the girls in the team for their hard work and enthusiasm, which certainly made it a memorable day, especially for the Year 12s competing at their last IGSSA athletics carnival.
