Head of the Hill at the Balmoral Burn
On Sunday 26 May, 16 Abbotsleigh students gave up their Sunday morning to take on one of the toughest events for any runner, the Balmoral Burn. Our strongest team of four runners won back the Head of the Hill trophy (after winning it in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017) falling 10 seconds shy of the record set last year. Our other teams showed our depth in running and strong team spirit, especially among the Years 7 and 8 students who showed no fear in the daunting run ahead of them. Surrounded on the start line by experienced runners as well as many students dressed up in a variety of onesies and tutus, our girls powered up the 420 m hill. Even though the event is all for charity, Abbotsleigh enjoys the challenge of reaching the top first. We did just that taking out first place in both heats and winning overall.
$1,200 was contributed to the Humpty Dumpty Foundation with a little more money also spent at the merchandise shop afterwards, all helping to provide medical equipment to children in more than 400 hospitals Australia-wide.
Visit the Humpty Dumpty Foundation website for more information on the charity and other events you can become involved in.
