Careful analysis leads to Abbotsleigh chemistry victory

On Friday 14 June, 12 Year 11 and 12 Chemistry students attended the RACI NSW Schools Titration competition at Kambala.

The aim of the competition is to accurately determine the unknown concentration of an acid by using titration techniques. The performance of a team is determined by its total score which is a sum of the scores achieved by each of the team members. The closer a team member is to determining the correct concentration the lower the score. Thus, lower scores are better.

The event was held at multiple locations over multiple days. There were approximately 16 teams competing at the Kambala venue, and in an exceptional result, our girls placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th! We expect the first placed team to gain automatic entry to the national competition in September, but depending on the scores, the second (and third) team might also gain entry.

We will provide updates as we hear about placements in the national competition.
