Abbotsleigh Ag Club Visits Knox
The Abbotsleigh Agriculture Club visited Knox's agriculture area on Tuesday, 10 September. Erin Nield (Knox Ag Teacher and Abbotsleigh class of 1989) showed the girls the poultry and sheep. The girls were impressed by the adult Wyandotte hens and look forward to our 8-week old chicks reaching their full growth and plumage. We also discussed equipment and feed for raising broiler chicks.
Students got to see different types of paddocks and specialised large animal handling equipment such as the cattle scales and crushes that have several different gates to allow access for veterinary work. The biggest hit was the new lambs, which received lots of cuddles as girls learned about meat versus fleece sheep and met the tame ram.
