Architectural win for Abbotsleigh

The Abbotsleigh Sports Hall and Sports Field designed by Sydney firm Allen Jack+Cotter Architects (AJ+C) was recently awarded the William E. Kemp award for Educational Architecture in the 2016 NSW Architecture Awards - the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Chapter's highest award for excellence in the design of educational facilities of any type; and a commendation in the Sustainability category. The project was noted for its impressive sustainability features.

Representing Australia in the pool

At the recent 11th Oceania Championships in Fiji, Abbotsleigh student Natasha Ramsden (Year 10) was one of the 20-strong Australian swim team, competing against the Cook Islands, Fiji, Guam, Hawaii, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga in the Damodar National Aquatic Centre. Natasha swam 50m fly, 50m and 100m freestyle and several relays. She returned with 2 gold and 3 silver medals  a new Oceania record in the mixed 4x50m freestyle relay team.

Literary Festival Visitor Sessions

The Abbotsleigh Literary Festival develops the themes of reading, writing, creating
and connecting. Open to all members of
the community, the Literary Festival features talks and books signings from more than 30 high-profile authors including
Jackie French AM, Morris Gleitzman, Aaron Blabey and Isobelle Carmody; plus adult writing workshops by Darcy-Lee Tindale and Jacqueline Harvey. 8-10 Aug.

Shuan-Tan-NEWSLETTER                                               

Shaun Tan exhibition

Running as part of the Literary Festival, the Grace Cossington Smith Gallery is now exhibiting Shaun Tan The Lost Thing: from book to film, in conjunction with our Literary Festival. The Oscar-winning Australian illustrator shares his love of drawing and award-winning work in this beautiful and inspiring collection. Open from Monday to Saturday, 10am-5pm with free entry. Until 18 August.
