Transition
transition.jpgOur Transition program for girls recognises the importance of the formative years in children’s development. There is a balance between guided investigations initiated by each child’s interests and questions about the world, teacher planned activities and creative play. Children are encouraged to express their understandings through a variety of artistic means including construction, drawing, painting, dramatisation, poetry, puppetry and music.

A focus for Transition is teaching each child the necessary skills to enable independence at school. Children are provided with experiences and support which help them to develop a positive sense of themselves, respect for others, social skills and a desire to learn. Our observations of children, together with those of parents, guide the enhancement of mathematical and literacy concepts. Stimulating books as well as scientific, creative and mathematical equipment are abundant. Exploration of the natural world, imaginative play and fine and gross motor skills are encouraged.

The Transition class draws upon the expertise of specialist teaching staff from the Junior School and shares excellent facilities such as the grounds, library and computer rooms. Each week, the girls participate in specialist music, physical education and Christian studies lessons. The children also visit the library on a weekly basis. During the second semester, the Transition class will begin to join Infants students at some Assemblies and Chapel services.

The Transition class is a five day program, commencing at 8.30 am each day and concluding at 2.30 pm. The class is run during term time and follows the academic year of the Junior School.
