Years 7, 8 and 9 comprise the Middle School at Abbotsleigh. There are approximately 150 girls in each year group who are cared for by teachers and tutors with a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm. Ongoing research into the learning needs of students in this special age group is a feature of Abbotsleigh’s Middle School. Our staff undertake action research and collaborate with peers and other educators in order to seek the latest information from colleagues worldwide. The Middle School years place an emphasis on opening opportunities through critical and creative thinking, the structured building of learning skills and learning through hands-on experiences – both within and beyond the classroom. Our aim is to equip our students with strong foundations for their future endeavours, an understanding of challenge and an appreciation of the diverse skills that each student possesses. Middle School students engage in a Board of Studies approved course of study which is designed to be engaging and challenging but with plenty of room for testing out new ideas and taking a “RISC”. The concept of positive risk-taking is embraced in the central learning space of Abbotsleigh’s Middle School - The RISC Centre. Its design and purpose embodies our belief in learning ‘in the middle years’ where students Reflect Imagine Search and Create. |
