AbbSearch is the research arm of Abbotsleigh, which supports high-level education research in schools.  It primarily focuses on methods of teaching and learning and behavioural patterns of students, with an emphasis on personal development and health.  The school also supports research relating to school policy and/or practices, program evaluation and professional development.

Students at Abbotsleigh are encouraged to learn about research methodology and to engage in research projects as part of their individual subject curriculum requirements. Collaborative research benefits the Abbotsleigh community, because the research results help teachers and students to interact more effectively and also aid the development of strategies for better teaching, learning and Academic Care.

AbbSearch provides opportunities for university researchers and tertiary students to engage in school-based research as part of their university requirements.

The AbbSearch Research and Ethics Committee considers and assesses all research activities conducted by external researchers and Abbotsleigh staff members, which involve the collection of primary data from members of the school community (including, but not limited to students, staff and parent groups). Final approval is granted by the Headmistress.

Those wishing to conduct research at Abbotsleigh must complete the relevant Research Proposal and Ethics Application Form and forward it to the AbbSearch Research and Ethics Committee for consideration. Abbotsleigh staff complete the Internal Application Form, Students complete a Student Application Form and all others complete the External Application Form.
