Chapel and Christian Studies Abbotsleigh is a Christian Anglican School that takes seriously the opportunity to help girls develop their own understanding of the Christian faith. The girls meet once a week for a Chapel service that encourages them to come aside from the busyness of the school day and reflect on God and his love towards us in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. Girls participate in singing, Bible readings and prayers as well as occasionally helping in drama. The chapel choir sings at special services such as Christmas, Easter, Confirmation and Holy Communion. They are led by our organist Ms Rosemary Blake. Girls also have an opportunity of learning to play the organ from Ms Blake. Crusaders is a group of students who meet at lunchtime on Wednesdays in the Senior School and Tuesdays in the Junior School to enjoy fellowship together and to hear from guest speakers who come and speak about the Bible. There is a yearly camp for the Senior School students who join with girls wishing to be confirmed. The Senior School group is led by Year 12 students and a group of musicians regularly play to help with the singing. Smaller year groups meet during the week to encourage each other in the faith. These groups are also led by girls from Year 12. A group for Kindergarten to Year 2 meet on Mondays and this group is called FISH. Christian Studies classes are taught from Kindergarten to Year 12 and girls are encouraged to ask questions as they learn about God and the Bible. It is hoped that they may have a familiarity with the contents of the Bible that will lead to a correct understanding of the nature of God and Jesus, as well as how human beings were created to live. They will also be taught the central beliefs and practices of some of the other major world religions and world views. |
