Abbotsleigh is a Boarding and Day school: not a day school with Boarders! Boarders and Day girls both contribute to the successful and happy mix that constitutes the spirit of Abbotsleigh. Boarders are in day houses for sporting and cultural pursuits and competitions, and enjoy a “take away” lunch every day which they pick up from the dining room.

Boarders achieve very highly in the HSC with over 60% typically achieving over 90 UAI scores.

We aim to help the girls reach their academic, social and emotional potential, helping them to gain independence and success in a structured and safe environment based on mutual respect and the Christian values of the school. We believe that if a boarder is happy and well connected, with a close sense of belonging to her school, staff and peers, then she will achieve her very best in all aspects of her development.

Boarders have access to the many and varied facilities that Abbotsleigh has, such as the Aquatic Centre, tennis courts and music rooms to use outside school hours.

There are several decision-making committees that Boarders choose to join: the Environment Council (includes best ways to recycle and promote a healthy and responsible community), the Abbotsleigh Boarder Council (like an SRC), the Food Committee which meets with the Food Services Manager and chief chef to make suggestions regarding meals, and the Service Council, which aims to raise money and awareness about local and global issues. There is also much opportunity for leadership within the House structure.

Parents are an integral part of our community. We know we can never replace home, and so always welcome discussion with parents about any aspect of their daughters' lives whilst in Boarding. The Abbotsleigh Boarder Parent Committee meets once per term as a group with the Head of Boarding to discuss any ideas or concerns they may have. They also do some fundraising and often develop close friendships within the group. Boarders are also allowed leave almost every weekend, subject to the permission of both parents and staff.

The Health Services Centre has a nursing sister and ready access to our local doctors who are happy to visit the boarders if they are sick. The centre has seven beds for minor illnesses and overnight stays and there are two major hospitals within 10 minutes of the school.

There are many questions parents ask about Boarding. Please see FAQs and don't hesitate to contact Rochelle Jenkins , Head of Boarding on 02 9473 7850 or jenkinsr@abbotsleigh.nsw.edu.au if you would like to know more.
