To acknowledge and encourage excellence, Abbotsleigh offers a number of scholarships to day and boarding students in Years 7, 10 and 11. Criteria such as school reports, examination results, financial need, personal interview and in the case of music scholarships, performance, are used to award scholarships.
Applications, unless otherwise specified below, must be submitted
by 1 May for entry in the following calendar year.
Year 7 scholarships
Abbotsleigh has the following five scholarships which begin in Year 7 and offer up to 100% remission of tuition fees. Applicants for these scholarships must complete a scholarship examination in October (registration opens in June). Please note that applicants must apply for these scholarships when they are in Year 5 (i.e. two years before starting Year 7 at Abbotsleigh).
- Open Scholarships: two academic scholarships. Up to 100% remission of tuition fees.
Betty Archdale Scholarship: a needs-based academic scholarship. Up to 100% remission of tuition fees.
Jubilee Scholarship: an academic scholarship for the daughter of an Abbotsleigh Old Girl. Up to 100% remission of tuition fees.
Music Scholarship: an academic scholarship awarded to an outstanding musician. Up to 100% remission of school tuition fees. Selected candidates are invited to audition. High passes in AMEB or equivalent are required in
Strings - violin, viola or cello - Grade V; double bass - Grade III
Brass/woodwind - bassoon, oboe, French horn, tuba - one or two years prior school tuition
Abbotsleigh also accepts applications for Indigenous scholarships which are provided in partnership with Yalari. These scholarships are open to Indigenous girls from rural and remote locations and provide up to 100% remission of school tuition and boarding fees from Years 7 to 12. Applications close in May the year before entry.
Years 9/10 scholarships
The David Giblin Organ Scholarship: awarded biennially to a current Year 9 or 10 student. Based on audition and academic performance.
Eva Thomas Memorial Piano Scholarship: awarded annually to a current Year 9 or 10 student. Based on audition and academic performance.
Year 10 scholarships
Foundation Scholarships: two needs based academic scholarships. Up to 50% remission of tuition fees.
The Royle Scholarship: an academic and general merit scholarship for a girl entering Year 10 or Year 11 who is the daughter, granddaughter, or great granddaughter of an Abbotsleigh Old Girl. Needs based criteria may also apply. Up to 50% remission of tuition fees.
Kathleen McCredie Award: a needs based scholarship awarded to a girl who demonstrates all round involvement in School life. Up to 100% remission of tuition fees.
Everett Scholarships: awarded to two current students moving from Year 9 to Year 10. Remission of one term’s tuition fees.
Year 11 scholarships
Centenary Scholarship: awarded for all round participation and achievement to a current student who is the daughter of an Abbotsleigh Old Girl, including 25% remission of tuition fees.
Bursaries: Two bursaries are also available. The Abbotsleigh Foundation Welfare Fund Bursary is awarded biennially to a new Abbotsleigh student entering Year 11 and gives 100% academic tuition fee relief. The Cora Jane Anderson Bursary is awarded to a current Boarder family on the basis of urgent and temporary need.
